Weather
ARTMACS provides tools to define weather conditions before (using Scenario Builder) or during the exercise.
At the airport
Using airport Weather Setup from Scenario Builder or during the exercise, an Instructor can manipulate weather to suit training needs by editing METAR/SPECI, TAF and SIGMET messages. Accordingly, current weather is displayed in the tower cab on a Weather Monitor screen, and out of the window the following phenomena can be observed:
- Wind speed and direction indicated by a windsock
- Wind affecting landing
- Volumetric clouds
- Fog
- Rain and snow affected by wind speed and direction
- Thunders (with sound)
- Sandstorm
On the radar
Significant weather areas can be displayed on radar screen. Each area can be static or mobile, with up to seven different intensities. Parameters like speed, direction or intensity can be modified by an Instructor before or during the exercise. Weather areas are also visible on PAR screen.
